What is a basix certificate?

A BASIX® Certificate is generated online using a website owned and maintained by the NSW Government Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

A BASIX Certificate identifies the sustainability features required to be incorporated in the building design. These features may include sustainable design elements such as recycled water, rainwater tanks, AAA-rated showerheads and taps, native landscaping, heat pump or solar water heaters, gas space heaters, roof eaves/awnings and wall/ceiling insulation.

The BASIX tool calculates a house or unit’s energy and water scores based on a range of data, including size, location and design features/fixtures such as those outlined above. Once the necessary commitments have been met, a BASIX Certificate is generated listing the schedule of commitments for your application. All the commitments listed on the BASIX Certificate must be indicated on the architectural plans.

A BASIX Certificate forms part of the documentation needed to submit to council when applying for a Development Application in NSW.

Before the BASIX Certificate is finalised, BASIXMAX provides a BASIX Report, which is a draft copy of the BASIX requirements. We ask clients to read through the commitments and let us know if any changes are required before we complete the BASIX Certificate.

When the BASIX Certificate is complete, the date and certificate number are shown on the front page of the BASIX Certificate. You then have three months to submit the BASIX Certificate to council. If this time is exceeded, the BASIX Certificate must be reissued.

Changes can be made to the BASIX Certificate once certified, however fees can apply, which is why we provide the BASIX Report.

BASIXMAX can provide you with a BASIX certificate listing the BASIX requirements for all Development Applications.
